Power-up¶
What happens, in order, and what it sounds like.
Before you power on¶
- Battery charged and plugged in.
- Kill switch remote in your hand.
- Gamepad front switch on X.
- Clear floor around the car.
The sequence¶
- Switch the car on. Wait for the boot beeps.
- Test the kill switch. Press B (falling pair). Press A (rising pair).
- Wait for the robot software ready beep: low-low-high.
- The car is in teleop mode. Hold the deadman and drive.
The beep vocabulary¶
The motor windings double as the speaker. Each event has a cue. Learn these six and you can hear the car's state from across the room.
| Event | Cue |
|---|---|
| Boot OK (armed, battery good) | Rising triple, pause, low-high. |
| Kill switch armed | Rising pair. |
| Kill switch disarmed | Falling pair. |
| Robot software ready | Low-low-high. |
| Battery warning | Three mid beeps when stopped. Three long high chirps while driving. |
| Battery cutoff | Low-high-low, every 5 seconds until power-off. |
If the boot beeps do not come¶
- Check the battery connector.
- Check the motor controller switch.
- Press A on the kill switch. The boot OK cue needs the switch armed.
If the car still makes no sound, write to support@goatracer.ai.
TODO (Rob): add how long a normal boot takes from switch-on to the ready beep.
